Fr. Maximus Habib was born Magdy Habib in Cairo, Egypt. He is a graduate of Ain Shams University in Cairo. He holds a BA in Civil Engineering, which he earned in 1982. After immigration to the United states, he earned his MS in Civil Engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit in 1995. He worked as a project engineer with Smith Group in Detroit, MI until 2001.
From a young age, he was highly involved in church services and activities. Fr. Maximus served at St. Mary Coptic Orthodox Church in Mesara, Shobra, Egypt as an active deacon and Sunday school servant. He continued serving at St. Mary’s until March of 1991 when he and his young family immigrated to Michigan and began serving at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Troy.
He served as an active deacon and Sunday school servant at St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church from 1991 until 2001. He also served on the planning committee responsible for the construction of St. Mary and St. Philopater Coptic Orthodox Church in Troy, which was established and built to accommodate an ever-growing congregation in southeast Michigan.
In 2000, the congregation of St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church in Troy nominated Magdy to serve as a priest of their parish. On July 5, 2001, His Holiness Pope Shenouda III (of blessed memory) ordained him as Fr. Maximus to serve the congregation of St. Mark Coptic Orthodox Church.
As a priest, Fr. Maximus has continued to grow in his love of service for the community. In order to further expand his pastoral ministry, Fr. Maximus has taken classes in marriage counseling at ACTS St. Athanasius and St. Cyril Theological School in the diocese of Los Angeles and Southern California. He is certified as a premarital and marriage assessment facilitator for Prepare/Enrich (www.prepare-enrich.com).
Additionally, Fr. Maximus has a strong passion for youth ministry and outreach. He has served at multiple college and high school youth conventions in the Diocese of Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.
In his spare time, Fr. Maximus enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
